Let's start using JRMS. We are going to go through the process of adding a new case and working with the ledger and payout features. Here's what we want to do... Let's get started.
We are going to add a fictious case numbered 99C23001 awarded in florida on may 13th,1999 for an amount of $15,900 with 2 plaintiffs and 2 defendants. We'll assume that on the same day we have recovered $3,250 on this case and have redistributed what is owed to the plaintiffs by check. Our share of the recovery is 50% (on both interests recovered and principal recovered) and the plaintiffs share is 50%.
1. Open JRMS and on the home page click on +ADD NEW CASE
2. The Case Information screen is blank... start by entering the case number

3. Notice that the DB entry date fills itself out automatically with today's date. You can now type data in any field on this screen.

4. From the case state pull down select florida. The interest percentage and validity for this state will appear automatically (and are customizable). Keep entering data. Enter the interest stating date and the judgment amount. You will notice that the calculation are now made on this page and you can preview the main financial info.

5. Go to the parties section by clicking on the TAB named parties on top of the screen. And start adding plaintiffs and defendants etc... to this case by selecting them from each pull down fields.

6. Click on NEW next to a Defendant pull down field to add a new defendant named TOTO... this will open the Defendant screen. Type your info name address etc, then close this screen you will be back on the Case Information screen.

6. The defendant named TOTO is now available in the defendant pull down fields. Select it.

7. Let's visit the ledger and start playing with numbers. Click on the LEDGER tab on top of your screen. The first line of your ledger is displayed in the middle of your screen. On each line you can edit the fields named End Date, Description, Recovery or Cost. On the first line add $3,250 to the recovery field then point and click your mouse outside the ledger or click on ADD NEW ENTRY TO LEDGER. The calculation is now made. You have recovered $3,250 and $20,149.51 are remaining for this case ($15,900 in principal and $4,259.51 in interests)

8. Let's go to the payout section and see what we owe and what is owed to us from the $3250. On the bottom of your screen you see a summary of how the recovered money is supposed to be redistributed. $1,825 are going to us. 50% of the recovered amount (Principal and interests) plus the $200 flat fee we charged for handling this case, which are taken off of the plaintiff's share. We can see that $1,425 is owed to the plaintiff. Let's just pay him back.

9. In the amount paid back section add a new line paid to PLAINTIFF enter today's date, the check description and the amount you want to pay. We enter the full amount $1,425. You can notice that the calcul is automatically made. $0 is now owed to the plaintiff.

That's is for this tour you should now be able to use the Case Information screen without any trouble. We've seen how to add a new case and start working with the ledger and payout features which is quite straightforward. |
